Sunstone

About the project

Project Sunstone will be a major battery energy storage project in Wolmirstedt, Saxony-Anhalt, built to support the rapid expansion of renewable energy and improve the stability of Europe’s electricity grid. With 750 MW of capacity and four hours of storage, the system will store surplus wind and solar power and supply it back to the grid when demand rises. Covering approximately 7 hectares and consisting of around 690 battery units, the facility will provide large-scale flexibility to help balance supply and demand in the power system. The site has been chosen close to existing substation infrastructure, allowing efficient grid connection while limiting additional land use and environmental disturbance. Designed in line with strict safety, environmental, and noise standards, Sunstone will operate responsibly within its surroundings while contributing to a more resilient and sustainable energy system.
