About the project

The 300 MW / 1200 MWh battery energy storage project in the Port of Antwerp will play an important role in supporting the transition to a reliable, renewable energy system. As more solar and wind power is added to the grid, large-scale storage is needed to capture excess clean energy when supply is high and release it when demand increases, preventing renewable electricity from being wasted and helping stabilize the grid. The project will be located within the existing industrial harbour area, close to a high-voltage substation, allowing efficient grid integration while avoiding the need for major new infrastructure. The selected location has been carefully assessed to minimize impacts on local flora and fauna and is situated away from residential areas. Designed to meet strict safety, environmental, and noise standards, the facility will provide critical energy infrastructure while operating responsibly within the surrounding community and environment.
